The
Grajower Family originally comes from Grajewo,
about 160 km northeast of Warsaw and 75 km northwest of
Bialystok, where they settled before the 18th century.
The family started moving toward the Cracow area at the
end of the 18th Century. Reb Yidl Grajower (1799-1865),
son of Reb Moses, became the rabbinical judge of Cracow.
His descendant, Reb Shmuel Grajower from Chrzanow, along
with his brothers Reb Chayeml Grajower from Kwocala and
Reb Sender Grajower from Jaworzno, were known throughout
Western Galicia for their thorough knowledge
of the Book of Books.
Most members of the Grajower family were Orthodox Jews
and some were also dedicated Zionists. They were involved
in trade and industry and included artisans in various
fields.
Unfortunately, most of the distinguished family perished
in the Holocaust, and the few survivors immigrated to
Israel or dispersed around the world.
